hi everybody,
have been looking for quite sometime now for a project and finally got this 52 chevy

this is my first resto and the plans for this build is to pretty much keep it stock except for a few safety upgrades. closest thing to billet will be a shiny new ignition key! (thats all the budget will allow!)
i have been lurking on this site while searching for a truck would like to say thanks to the stovebolt management and members for making this site so great and i look forward to posting pics and questions as i go
cheers,
ryan

Hey Ryan, welcome. I'm just 45 minutes north of you, just outside of Lindsay. Looks like you have a 4 speed truck, like mine. If you get stumped, just ask here, on the proper forum. Good luck.

Welcome to the bolt. Your truck looks to be pretty dang solid compared to a lot we see. Good luck. How can we help?

I see Leo has also welcomed you. Nice guy if you can hook up with him... just don't tell him I said that!!

thanks for the welcome everyone!

Leo -hello out in Lindsay! have you heard of Minakers Auto? they are out Sandbanks way just happen to stumble across them on the net trolling for parts. was wondering if you happen to deal with them at all

unfortunately this truck came to me already gutted and slapped back together but the frame is solid and so is most of the cab. floor is pretty much gone but the firewall and toe kick looks good. most of the parts came in boxes and i know i am missing a bunch (inner fenders, gauges etc..) so without a doubt i know i have a lot of truck meets and swaps in my future!

just got the engine unseized yesterday after about a week of soaking it. 1st victory of the build! its definitely a 216 after measuring the bore. tried tracing engine serial # but nothing matches. according to previous owner this is a canadian 1300 not a 3100 which from what i've read can be tough #s to track down.

got the truck shop manual and tom brownell's "restoring your chevy truck" is on the way. now all i need is a wheebarrow full of cash and i am all set!

Ryan, haven't heard of Minakers. I go to Bill Peeters, near Courtice Rd and the 401. Try to google Bills truck shop.

Hi Ryan
I am Burlington, ON so not so far away.
I have bought a couple of rear axles from Bill's Trucks that no one else had locally. A 3 hour drive round trip but, it saved my rear end (bad pun intended)! He is great source and stocks a great supply and what he doesn't have he will get in short order.

Personaly, I usually buy my parts from the usual gang (JC, Chev's of the 40's, Filling Station etc) and cross border shop to my postal outlet in Niagara Fall, NY and clear them myself at the border. Huge savings.

These guys at Stovebold have been a great help to me (although sometimes a little grumpy) and have helped me beyond belief.

Good luck with project.
Peter

i just went to bill's truck shop the other day that is where i bought the shop manual. they seem like good people there and lucky for me they are only a 15 mins away.

i was just going to ask you Peter while reading your reply how you dealt with the shipping from the states. i got stung on ebay once when i bought a golf club from an american store and they sent it ups. ended up costing me an extra $100 in custom's charges. found out later if it was mailed usps it would have saved me the cash. think i will look into getting myself a postal outlet too. thanks for the tip.

cheers,
ryan

Welcome! I'm just outside of Peterborough. I went to Minaker's several years ago, they had a huge yard of early iron. Sadly they have cleared out most (if not all by now) of the vehicles. Last I heard they were still selling parts.
I've dealt with Bill's Truck Shop, good people.
Best of luck with the new project.

Ryan,
welcome to the Stovebolt. You will find Bill's Truck good people to deal with. I have also bought from Minakers before the crusher came along. I understand they were still in the parts business a few years ago. I bought my 4.10 rearend pumpkin from them. If you are ever up Bracebridge way please give me a shout.

Fred

Hey Alvin -- Good thing we sent Leo home with a flag. Looks like they have the makings of a pretty tight group there to rival the BC Bolters, the Old Dominion gang (Man, did we get in trouble last weekend ...), the Lone Star Boys and your Southerners!

Ryan, Welcome to the 'Bolt. You've got good advice above and a hearty welcome from an amazing number of ON Bolters close to you.

I hope this web site will be a good resource for you! Keep those letters and cards coming!

Regards,
John

Hi Ryan,

Great to see another Canuck on the board. I'm doing some gentle upgrading to an Oshawa-built 1950. I'm happy to share my experiences, and help you out if I can.
