Can I replace the middle grill bar with a top or bottom bar from another grill? Are the bars a set or are they the same despite location on the grill?

If your talking about a 47-53 AD Truck.
No, they are slightly different in size.

Some people are like Slinkies, Their not really good for nothing... But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Thanks for the quick reply. Not what I was wanting to hear tho. Guess I need to find a donor but many have damage to the 1st and 2nd bars from the bottom. Those are the two I need for my 52 1/2 ton.

Are the grills from the 47-53 big bolts the same as the half tons? I believe the bars are spread out more top to bottom but are they the same as the half tons?

No they are not the same dimensions. The spacing is different and the bars are larger.

Also the bottom one has a small indent for a hand crank.

I went through this "excercise" sometime ago. The grille I got from a bolter had two bars the same length....but he did not know it either. After all my work and then starting to put it back together something just would not fit up correctly. Turns out it had two #4 bars.
I do not know the exact measurements but its seems that they were each about 3/8" difference from one to the other. That is what gives it the "slant" look!!

Lesson learned!

EDIT: this was on my 1/2 ton panel.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
