I'd stay away from trying to sand it because at it's age, I suspect it's pitted and you'll never get into the pits unless you sand a lot of the metal down. I guess if you didn't have access to blast it, you could sand it down then go back over with with a chemical, but that's a lot of work. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 457 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 457 | Golem, what a great project! I would sand/ abrasive blast or have it tank dipped. Definitely go with epoxy primer, as it won't start rusting again if you're not in a big hurry to finish it. Take lots of pics along the way, that is a rare truck

I would try some 3M stripper discs on a drill to see what you have in several places. The discs don't affect the metal but they will take off surface rust, paint and bondo. If money were no object I would dip it. Man, the sides of that beasty look really straight. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | ...ditto what the others said. The lines on her are perfect, just a few rust holes and dents here and there but I really lucked out.
I'm going to look into dipping in my area
Definatly keep everyone up to date with the progress
If the shortcut actully worked it would be called "the way"
