My 53 had been converted to electric wipers, which work well. However, the kit used a round knob, very un-stock, with the word "Wiper" engraved white on black.

I have an original correct maroon knob, but I am baffled as to how to mount it to the shaft that comes through the dash. The knob has a much larger inside diameter, and no set screw or splines. The switch shaft is much thinner, and has a flat for a set screw. I don't want to just JB weld the thing together.

Any ideas?

creative adaptation is a requirement for anyone wanting to 'hide' updates to an old rig .... sounds like the addition of a set screw to the knob along with some judicious sleeving [small copper tube?] might do it

I put the factory switch back in the dash and then hid the one you describe under the dash it looks stock but is easily turned on since I know where the switch is. I located mine in one of the existing holes in the dash below the radio area.

Thanks for the replies. I got brave and drilled the knob, and hacksawed a slot into a small-diameter bolt. Stay tuned.

Newport claims to sell an adapter the will let you use stock bezel and knob

...click..
I would call them to confirm first. The adapter in the pic on thier web site dose not look like it will work to me.

I mounted the modern switch under dash and used a flex drive cable using stock bezel and knob drilled for set screw.

I did what Brad did, hide the new-fangled knob.
