Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience on how much these old trucks can work. My wife and I just bought our first house and used our 51 3100 to move about 80% of our belongings. Put over 150 miles of back and forth driving between the apartment and the new house about 12 miles round trip--most of it stop and go traffic and temperature was between 80-90 and humid. The old 216 just purred along, never overheated (can't say the same for the driver) and many loads later we are moved into our first house!!

Matilda, as we call her, is now resting in her new garage. Here is a picture of her with one of many loads. Photobucket

Just wanted to share.

Chris

Nice picture Chris! I hear you. I used my flatbed last fall to help our movers. We used it to transport all the items from the barn to the truck. The best part was that the deck heights were the same. So we could drive the lawnmowers and wheeled equipment right across!

Matilda is in flat black primer. Some day she will be treated to a full restoration.

Good to see her being used the way they were intended.

So true--I certainly won't be afraid to put her to work another time.

Looks great and sounds like a smooth move. Where did you purchase the rims? what siZe etc? I am looking for 16 inch rims that are steel for that orginial look.

I have always loved these old trucks because they are simple, reliable, and COOL! Speaking of moving, my '59 panel moved us to a new house in FL in'86, and my '49 3100 helped us move to NC in '91. I drove that '49 550 miles (12 hours) to get here, and it never complained. Okay, I was rock concert deaf when we got here, but other than that....Stovebolts RULE! wink
