Is there such a thing? I'm thinking a rubber plug maybe. I want to remove the non-op filler from my truck before somebody pumps gas into the cab.

Most folks weld in a metal plud and paint it over.

Cheap route - leave in the filler neck, and put a $5 locking gas cap on it, till you get round to welding her up.

we won't be welding anytime soon on that new paint job.

I've never seen a plug or grommet you can use to plug the hole.The locking gas cap sounds like a good idea.You could put the tank back in behind the seat and run dual tanks.

If you just have a dummy filler neck, and don't like look of a locking cap, I would weld a plug INSIDE the neck, so if you take the cap off, there is no hole. Wouldn't have to touch the paint.

They did indeed make a rubber plug for the filler hole. My COE had a factory one because it had a saddle tank mounted to the frame. I put a tank behind the seat and took it out. I. Doubt anyone reproduces one.

I've seen plugs on other makes of trucks, IH and Ford I'm pretty sure. So in your search also check reproduction parts for those as well.

Leaving the filler neck in place and blocking the hole inside sounds like a very good plan. I think that looks better than a blank rubber plug.

I understand that Steve's Auto Restoration (SAR) in Portland has a filler piece for the gas filler hole

I saw where a fella used the piston from a motorcycle engine to fit into the hole with the rubber grommet.

Scott's50: I will have to take a look at the big trucks in the salvage yard, should have thought of that myself.

40casey: that is a good solution.

nvrdine: I googled them and found a catalog but don't see the plugs or grommet or whatever you might call it.

Your local hardware store should have a selection of large rubber corks- one should be close enough in size to use or modify a little, so it goes inside the neck allowing the cap to stay on and look original. You could put a smiley face sticker on the plug to further discourage or amuse enthusiastic gas-pumpers.

Or, cut a piece of sheet metal about 1 inch too big for the hole, bend it or hammer and dolly it to sit nicely over the hole,weld a couple bolts to the inside, sand and paint with the same color as the truck, add a piece of rubber gasket around the inside edge and hold it in place with a cross bar and nuts inside the cab. It won't be a perfect patch, but it will be a smooth cover, and no one is going to fill thru it.
