I have a 1950 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton. What's the best way to get items mounted in the dash out without taking the whole dash down? For example, I want to get the gauges, glove box, etc. out so I can start cleaning them up. Is there an easy way to do this?

Yes remove the glovebox (screws around the front edge just inside the door) and then you can get behind the radio grill. Once that is out you can start on the gauges. Most of the stuff is held on with small 1/4" nuts and screws. One of the joys of these years of trucks is folding yourself in half to work under the dash. The dash does not come off by the way it is a welded body panel, part of the cab structure.

I also found it easier to contort myself with the bottom seat cushion pulled out. It's less padding, but less bending. Most people I talk to pull the whole seat out.

There's probably a specific order for when you get to the gauges and knobs section that makes it easier, but I don't know it nor remember what order I did mine.

....sad part is after you put them in a time or two you can then do it standing on your head in the dark. To late then!!

I did pull out the seat yesterday and found the source of the odor! Bones (yes, bones) fell out as I pulled the bottom bench seat from the cab. Good thing my brother brought his hazmat suit from the firehouse!

But now that the bench seat is out, there is a considerable amount of extra space to move around in the cab. I'll get to those dash items today. I'm hoping to take them home with me and work on them throughout the week, as it's not always easy for me to spend time in the garage during the work week.

most likely will have those gauges in and out a few times, I've had mine out so many times I stopped counting.

First thing I do is pull the speaker grill, disconnect the brake release, I even pull the steering wheel.

Its hard to read, is it UASF.?
