When I got my 1 ton it came with windshield washer jets and a button (under the dash) to control the vacuum operated windshield washer, but the washer reservoir (Mason Jar) and mounting bracket were no longer on the truck. I recently got a jar and the bracket. The mounting screws on the bracket don't seem to line up to any existing holes. My firewall does have a lot of holes. I believe that windshield washers were an aftermarket only accessory.
So I have a few questions.
1. Is there a diagram that shows what holes came in the firewall of an AD truck, and what they were for (different heaters, etc.)? Did the holes change from year to year? I would think that to do a correct restoration, one should fill all the non-factory holes and leave all the factory holes.
2. Were there different styles of the brackets for washer reservoirs? I think that they were made by Trico. Maybe I can't find the holes because I have a different bracket.

It states what all the holes are for in Section 1 Sheets 3.19-20-21 the correct one for your truck is 3.19 (close enough for reference anyway). Next it does not show the washer detail but the 1948 or similar years Accessory Installation Manuals will. The kits are dealer installed and appear in the option guides and salesman data books. The kits came with instructions (detailed measurements for drilled or existing holes)and all hardware to install they are a package that comes with everything needed to install that particular accessory. There are different brackets and styles for different years also there were aftermarket kits sold by companies like Trico and others. I would be happy to mail you photocopies of any of the information I have. I also have numerous pictures of the NOS install packages for some years. If interested send me a PM.

Back in the day if you needed gas you wheeled into the Texaco and a smiling face asked, "fill her up?" Then he swept you floorboard out and washed your windshield. When that service to the windshield (windscreen for Jock)became obsolete the manufacturers started offering as an option, a crude kind of washer. My mother's 56 Ford had a rubber bag hanging under the dash and a foot pedal to press that mashed the bag and squirted a bit of water on the windshield. It didn't work worth a hoot but it was a start. Now if you don't like stopping to wash you windshield you will need to buy an after market job. Windshield Washers

There were two designs, pre-1954 (47-53) and 54/55. The earlier style shows up on eBay infrequently. I have never seen the a complete set of parts for sale for the 54/55 design (but I know people who have put together sets of parts or have some how found full sets from NOS parts vendors/finders). The 54/55 design has a foot-pedal that actuates the washer spray and also actuates the wipers (via a cable connection to the vacuum motor).
