I have completely removed the dry rotted floor (in 2 pieces) without cutting the spot welded trim pieces that secure the floor from the top. I hope to reinstall a new wood floor in the same manner using a lap joint. I figure that I can slide two pieces of plywood back in place with a mitered 6" lap joint that is offset lengthwise. Made it easier to get to the fuel tank for cleaning and sealing. Do those vendors sell fuel gauge sender units for A-D panel body trucks? I found 60-63 units at filling station (and what looks like a couple 6v universal units)

One of the universal units might work in your year Suburban (1950).
| | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 321 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2007 Posts: 321 | I bought my sending unit from Lisa (Jim Carter). I put a Z bend in the unit with a pair of needle nose pliers, just enough to clear the side of the tank. Works like a charm.
Anton, I had the same issue with my tank. My truck came from Barstow, CA and the tank was in perfect shape, but hadn't seen gas for 30 years. I took it to my local rad and tank guy who is amazing. He just boiled it, resealed around the line, checked for leaks and returned it to me good as new. He said he wasn't even going to line it because it was in such good shape. For me, it was a piece of mind.
The filling station is a nice shop to deal with. I purchased my rear tail lights from them.

There was some difference in the way it is made. I ended up taking mine over to D&M Restorations and had Mike calibrate it with the guage unit. I just hope the reading on the guageis what is in the tank. I'll know soon. The radiator shop said it was going to cost $85 to clean the inside of my rusty fuel tank. Seems a bit pricey to me. That price doesn't include coating the inside of the tank either. | | |
