Not unless there would be a market for it. The market for the 1/2 ton cross members has dried up to next to nothing.

Bringing this thread back from the dead =)

Scott, I just read through and noticed that the cross member is working for both the 1/2 and 3/4 tons.... I wonder if it would work for 1-tons?

no, the 1T trucks have a set of parallel rails, where the 1/2t and 3/4t trucks are both tapered. The 3/4T truck has a 1/4" higher frame section, however the same taper to the frame until the cab. So with a 3/4T, there is a bit more welding with the gap for the boxing plates.

The 1T frame and larger will require a different solution

Has anyone tried this crossmember in other applications? I've got a 52 chevy car that could use a front end upgrade. Around here s10 trucks are a dime a dozen, so parts would be easy to find

the frames would have to be the same in the front to work, as my crossmember is specifically for the AD/ND trucks

probably wouldn't be any different than welding in a generic MII crossmember- as long as the width works

much different than a Generic Mustang 2, if the frame taper and width isnt the same, it wont fit.

Hi Scott,

I am very interested in your crossmember for a 50 1/2 ton, just waiting for someone to get one finished and on the road for some real world feedback. I'm guessing there are others like me, waiting to see the final results before pulling the trigger and spending money. I've been watching Todd's thread on the HAMB with great interest, everything I've seen so far looks very encouraging. It's just hard to turn loose of the money right now without seeing a completed project. Thanks for all your efforts.

All 1/2T and 3/4T AD/ND trucks from 47.2 to 55.1 with any of the common engines and a few uncommon.

I6's V8's (big and small, Chevy, Buick, Olds and Caddy)

after looking at todds photos of how he mocked up the front suspension I had a question! I personally have a 292 I6 that must be custom fitted to the engine bay. looking at the front crossmember of the danforth assembly, it seems that my oilpan would hit. how would you solve this problem besides lifting the engine and throwing off the geometry. I really want to buy one of these kits but do not want the added guess work of meesing up and cutting. If someone can give me a answer I would love it. if using a 350 it will be fine as you have room to go up alittle. the 235-261 & 230-292 might be a different beast to tame.

The pan for the 292 is close, however it fits if you dont intend on raising the crossmember within the frame (to go lower). There is about 3/4" clearance It also fits with the 216 and 235. Dont know of anyone with a 261 yet. you wont be pulling the oil pan from the engine while its in the truck, however the I-6's fit.

On a side note, I would modify an oil pan before I raised an engine to make something fit.

thanks for the info! I guess I will be ordering a kit and just see what happens. how soon before they are ready to ship and what is the current price! also does a list of parts needed come with the kit? instruction/parts needed manual- I like the idea of gm in gm and not F(*d in a gm. lol thank you

Here's another neat example of do it yourself welder series crossmember kit that was previously featured on Classic Trucks. It looks like a very do-able project for someone that has the talent & skills. A quality steering & handling upgrade of an AD truck on a budget.

Vickraft - the welder series is a Pinto Based product - (Pinto run was 1970-1981 vs the M2 which was 1974-1978) you go ahead and use pinto parts on your vehicle.

My crossmember is a specifically built product to us GM metric (G-body and S-10) parts.

Marlo, there is a 34page instruction manual that comes with a complete list of parts (that is also in this thread about (July 3rd 2008) The crossmember comes with boxing plates, the main crossmember, two frame re-inforcement gussets, two spring perches, and optional steering rack brackets.

I brought it back up because I believe other then the stock suspension, your kit is the way to go to keep from clipping or even doing a frame swap. Even though I have Marge on a stretched S10 frame at the moment, I have something rolling around in my head. I just wish your kit was around 6yrs ago.
I'm thinking about starting over on my frame & stretching a stock AD 1/2ton frame and using your kit so I can get a better track width in the front, get rid of the steering box & use a rack, being able to use a stock style radiator & along with not having to cut my inner wheel wells.
But before I do anything I need to get some measurements off of a 1/2ton frame first before I decide. Got any????????..joe

Joe, do you have any CAD background, I have the front of the half ton modeled in Pro/E. however for your project, I would suggest a stretched 3/4 ton since the frame rails are parallel.

Nope I know NOTHING about "CAD" other then a few friends work in that field.
And thanks for the info on the different between the frames.
I wasn't for sure BUT I had thought there was a difference, that's why I asked about frame specs.
Now did I read somewhere in one of your many posts on this that w/the 3/4ton frame you have to lay the kit deeper into the frame to get the drop some folks want??
Along w/possibly using dropped spindles and/or lowered springs??
Because I prefer having my beast low to the ground...joe

Scott, Have you found anybody that has installed the front suspension and posted pictures online? I have not moved on it at all. I was asked to work on finishing the basement and that has turned into a multi-year job for me.

The link to for sale ad is not working for me.

I have a 51 3/4 ton that I would be interested in doing the swap to. I got complete S10 for free a few years ago and junked the body and was planning on doing a frame swap but after looking into it just seems like a lot of work and with the S10 track width being narrower I didn't like the idea of the wheel spacers.

Just wonderng what width rearend is going to match the front when the crossmember and suspension components are in?

There are a variety of rear ends, however the F-body (camaro / Firebird) and the G-body would be good matches on track width.

I have a 3800 1-ton and am interested in the idea of IFS. A previous post said that the frame rails of the 1-ton are parallel unlike the 1/2 ton. Is there anything that can be done to your system to fit my 1-ton?

Working on a project with Danny Bowles (Danimal on the HAMB) will soon be using one of my kits on a panel and documenting it on the HAMB. Just need to get free on a weekend to visit Danny again.

looks like with a bit of very minor tweeks my kit will work on a 1T panel. (at least thats what Dan and I figured)
