I purchased the water pump conversion plate and new water pump. Instructions on the pump conv. plate indicate I need a harmonic balancer from a '53 or '54 so pump and fan will run at the proper speed. Both my generator and new water pump have 3/8" belt fittings. I have an old harmonic on my 216 but that is 5/8". Any sources for a new or used harmonic balancer or do i just return the pump and plate and go with the new short shaft water pump?? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 554 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 554 | If you can return the pump or exchange it another option is to use a 1952 or earlier pump with the 5/8 pulley and use your 216 balancer. Depending on your generator/alternator/voltage choice you may have to change the front pulley on that too. I went with a 216 balancer, 1952 pump with adapter like you have, and took the pulley off my 6 volt generator and put it on my 12 volt generator.

All the people with actual experience say the 235 and 216 balancers are interchangeable.
Chuck | | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | I've got a 55 power glide 235 in my 52-3100 and did the Pre-68 Dave adapter and used a 216 water pump, I used the balancer off my 216 and used a 3/8s belt with no problems others here have also used the 3/8s belt with no problems,using the stock 216 water pump instead of the short shaft pump if you ever need a pump out on a trip you can order it from any FLAPS it's cheaper and most places can get one in 1 day.My truck is converted to 12volt alt. and the 3/8s belt is fine.
