After about an 18 year sleep I actually got the motor running. Need to do a better tune-up but it runs pretty good for being out in the elements for that long. And the motor was froze when I got it! Watch me fire it up right here.. And here's an encore performance here. This is too cool!

Any tips and tricks to share? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 190 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 190 | | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 553 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 553 | Dally, The motor was froze solid when I got it. I soaked each of the cylinders with 2 or 3 tablespoons of ATF. After about 4 or 5 days, I got the motor to budge just a fraction of an inch. I just kept working it back and forth, back and forth, back and forth until I got it to spin freely with out the spark plugs. With my thumb over one of the spark plug holes I could feel the compression and I knew it was gonna run.............and it does. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 53 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 53 | Did you mix the ATF with anything? or just drop it in by itself?
(Young Gun Question again: ATF=Automatic Transmission Fluid, Correct?)

I was expecting to see lot of white smoke until all the ATF burned off. Thanks for posting. Good inspiration for the rest of us.
