For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 29 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 29 | I'm thinking of doing a PS conversion. Info/advice on which kits?
Anything I need to consider with regards to motor mounts, lowering? Specifically, a 57 3100 with the original V8 (283) conversion front motor mounts. I plan to upgrade to a 350 (zz4) so should I look at the side motor mounts? If so, which ones? Future plans are to go with a 3" dropped axle. Any known issues there? I appreciate all the info/help. Ran a thread search but came up empty.

When I did my 52 I think they showed them for TF trucks to. I love the ones for my 52 but then my 52 was never set up for a V8 like the 55's and up. Still, it may be worth a look. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | Are you contemplating IFS? If so would it be a clip or ready-made like Fatman, TCI, or Heidts?

It has been trouble free and handles great. Numerous aftermarket suppliers can furnish them. I use ABS in Orange, CA. www.abspowerbrake,com. FRed

Only found kit #577, not sure if that's the toyota or not. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | That's it. The box is from a 84-87 Toyota 4X4 pickup. You will have to modify your existing column or use a later column. I used my existing column and was able to retain the 3 speed column shifter. Fred

I have a 72Chevelle steering column linked in with my original steering box on a 51Chevy 3/4ton.I have 350 engine sitting there with hugger headers. Any info would be appreciated.I have the power steering kit that Achipmunk, has on his Suburban.I don't have it installed yet. Looking for a better way to install without having to remove the fender on the driver's side. Thanks | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | I think you should stay with your existing kit as it is a proven system for AD trucks. The Toyota box mounts on the inside of the frame and since the AD frame is narrower than on TF trucks you will more than likely have clearance problems with a V-8. It may work with a 6 cyl but I have not done one. Fred

Thanks again,Wendell. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | We didn't pay any where near that amount for the last one we did. Of course, I do a lot of business with them and don't have to pay shipping. You can get the pump, brackets, & pulleys from any pick your part. CPP sells the same kit but I don't know what their prices are. It's still the best set up I have found for TF trucks. Fred

I used a new tilt column and there inter connecting shaft since the shaft requires a offset. Much easier with the front fenders removed. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 482 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 482 | Fred doesn't make any money promoting those kits. He just likes what they do...The ABS kit comes with a lot of stuff which accounts for what seems like a lot of money. Comes with the Toyota box, engineered mounting plate, pitman arm, drag link with new ends, hoses, steering column u-joint and a bushing. And it's not a simple bolt-in deal. Just try getting your old pitman arm off and you're already in a power struggle. I bent a cheap puller and couldn't get it off. Resorted to my old friend, Mr. Cutting Torch and then I borrowed a beefy puller from my neighbor, a Snap-on dealer. This to get the new one on and off in order to adjust the travel. It's not a project for the faint of heart or shallow of pockets! Once done, worth every penny and skinned knuckle. Pic: https://picasaweb.google.com/orchidskip/PowerSteeringProject#
