Hey everyone,

First i would like to say im glad i found this site, looks like there is a wealth of information here. My father has had a 1939 chevy truck sitting in the garage for a good 20 years. this past month i decided im not gonna wait for my pops to fix it and I will just do it my self (im sure he will help :P)

A little background story on the truck from what my father has told me. He was given the truck by his uncle in the 70's. The truck came from Sonora, Mexico. He flew out there and drove it back, so it did run at one point haha. The other thing my dad says its not sitting on the correct frame. Here are some pictures i took today while i was tinkering around.

oh yeah the truck was painted some time during the 80's. is there any way of indentifying the vehicle? i looked for the VIN but couldnt find the plate, and what year of truck the frame is from?? Thanks everyone!

messican welcome... This is a start to identify your CAR & TRUCK MODEL SERIES IDENTIFICATION

Wonder if it was built in Mexico ? I do not know if Chevy trucks were built there or not, be interesting to know...

Welcome,
Nice truck and looks in good shape!
It probably was titled or registered using the engine number stamped on the block pad behind the distributor, if you can't find the plate its probably long gone.
The frame won't have anything stamped on it, and your going to have to show more pictures of the frame itself if you want somebody here to identify it, or you could peruse the manual project listings for frame dimension drawings. Good luck!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but from the looks of your dash, I'm wondering if your truck might be a 1940 rather than a 39.

Regardless, it looks like a good project. Keep us posted on your progress, ans ask away with any questions.

And welcome to the Bolt!

Hey Messican,

Welcome to the bolt. Looks like you have a great project to work on there. Appears to be in pretty fair shape too. Hope you and your dad have fun working together.

I actually did notice this while browsing the gallery of '39 and '40 trucks. the weird thing is the grille i have looks more like the 39 style compared to the 40. Who knows what happened in years before my father had the vehicle.

If it was a '40, it would have parking lights mounted on the front fenders.
She looks like a nice truck to start with. Gonna keep her stock or modify ?

Shoot it looks like it will run. Id change the fluids, clean out the gas tank and fire it up! If it aint broke don't fix it. Might as well see what you got and have some fun drive

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
