The glass is shot (no big deal) the frames are rusted through and are basically falling apart. Classic industries sells the entire assy for 249.00.

Got the radiator un-clogged. Runs cooler now. Took for second test drive. Still no windshield in it yet. Replaced speedo needle. Blasted and painted former parking lights to be used as turn signals. Modified T5 shifter for dash/seat clearance.

I finally have the cab painted. This week I hope to get the glass in it. I am putting all new rubber and tinted glass back in. The engine is almost complete. All I have left to do is mount the a/c compressor and the alternator. I went with a set of Vintage Air brackets to mount them. They are really nice billet brackets. Really hurt when I had to take a grinder to them to get them to fit – luckily its where you can’t see. Also had to have some spacers machined, those that came with it were not long enough and I didn’t want to stack up washers.

I got the electric wiper motor working with the drivers side wiper only. I bought the "54 GMC" motor off ebay several years ago for the '54 pick up I was building. I found out it doesn't bolt up to a '54 GMC. It looks very similar to a Task Force Chevy electric motor but is clearly marked 6V. It had to be aft of and lower than the stock location to clear the cowl vent. Consequently, the arms need to be longer to reach it. I mounted it where the driver side reaches and I'll have to build an extended arm for the passenger side, with a bend to clear the glovebox.

I picked up some parts at Bill's Truck Shop this morning. Still working on the doors and windows. He said to take the doors back off to install the rubber seals.

I will be installing doors, weather-strip and seals soon. I had not planned on holding off attaching the doors first. I wonder the reason for what he recommended.

Today was a good day. My bolt is on wheel dollies and I was able to spin it around in my garage. This allowed me more room to remove my bed and dismantle it. Once that was done I stored it in my shed till a later date. I also gathered the wood for my cab dolly construction that will be underway shortly. I borrowed a heavy duty engine crane to remove my engine and transmission and am currently giving thought to the removal of my cab from the frame so i can send the frame to the sandblaster.

What about the rest of you?

Decided to start the truck today - it's been about 6 weeks. Let it run for about 45 minutes and all seemed good. My 38 has a 40 tailgate, so I took it off to have the lettering painted next week.

Today I positioned the engine crane in place so as soon as it warms up and dries a bit I can pull the motor and transmission.

The windshield went in on the second try. At first we tried to do it dry. Then we used dish detergent and it popped right in. I have the a/c compressor and alternator mounted and after making a custom bracket for the power steering pump everything lines up and none of the belts hit. Gauges are in, but not wired, as is the radio. New electric wiper motor installed and working. I’m waiting on Flaming River to complete the up-grades to my steering column. I am also waiting on the new brake pedal assembly so I can firewall mount the master cylinder.

I checked out your slideshow John, it's looking real nice.

To quote the late great Frank Zappa regarding the glass install, "Keep it greasy and it'll go in easy!"
Although I'm not quite sure he was talking about glass! big_eek

Got almost half-way on the radiator. Not as easy as I thought, but it's getting the result I wanted. What's all that solder along the bottom? Was it born that way? Still lots to go, then tons of polishing.

Even tho it wasn't TODAY, it was recent and I just got the pics uploaded.

Sandblasted and painted my frame. HUGE step for me! Marks the "putting back together" of the truck.

Did all the work myself, my first time time to blast or paint on this scale.

#5 blastsand. PPG White epoxy primer. PPG gloss black enamel with hardener. 2 devilbiss startingline guns.

Like I said, my first time, so it's not pro but its not terrible. I'm happy with it.

I removed my old pilot bushing, installed a new one and installed a new clutch disc. I am about to re-install the four speed after having it rebuilt. I am hoping that the tranny does not leak oil out the front shaft any more!

My replacement rubber for my rear window came in today. That is my new replacement for my other new replacement rubber. I had tried and tried to install the window and in the process ripped the rubber. So, I get to try again. I think I've got it all figured out. I did this once when I was 17 but that was 51 years ago.

You might want to post information about your new engine find in the "Engine" forum.
Also, if you don't have one find a cheap digital camera to post pics of your progress.
