Why can't we just go back to the designs from when cars were unique and didn't all look the same?

Yea i have the 305 but its a bit rough. Pulling it out to swap in a sbc 350 out of my brothers car. Planning on rebuilding the 305 from ground up. Anyone know where to find engine parts? or would everything have to be forged?
