I did some looking around and American Classic has this one for $185.... and "sort of looks" like the one from NewPort Engineering. NewPort says theirs clears choke cable/vent and it cost $209. Question: who has used and has comments about either one. I ask about wiper motors in another post a while back but want input on these two. http://www.americanclassic.com/images/WW810.JPGhttp://www.newportwipers.com/products.php?year=1947-53+Stock+Choke+Cable&make_id=2This one says it clears choke....another one listed here for the same years says it "clears the cowl vent and the A/C. I plan to put A/C in one day. What say the ones who have used these? I also plan to be in Kansas next week and will get one from JimCarter if someone can tell me if theirs clears a/c...vent ect ect....Mike where you at?

It was what I'm looking for and I now think I know which way I am going.
A thought on the "sweep"... I have NOT checked it out yet but I'm thinking of taking my transmission to the parts house and see what later model ARM will fit on the transmission "nub". Then see just how wide of a wiper blade I can use. I think the standard Blade width is about 10" but it looks to me like a 13" would work would give you a "taller" sweep....but maybe not a "wider" sweep??
Has anyone used a later ARM or blade? I know American Classis sells a later arm and blade at about 25-$30 a side. Thanks for all the input guys. I ended up buying my wiper motor from JimCarter after I found out it WAS/IS a Newport Engineering wiper motor. While I have not but the power to it yet I just want to say what a nice, heavy, well made wiper motor this is. I was pleasantly surprised and it bolted right in. The switch is OK but I may adapt an original maroon knob to it. Comes with good instructions and diagrams.
The best part is with our Stovebolt Discount I purchased it from JCarter for less than I could have gotten it straight from Newport. ***Just remember, there are two part #'s for the wiper. One is made especially to make sure it does not interfer with the choke cable. Simply put.....I like it AND its made right here in the USA. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Achipmunk
I agree on the Newport. I did have to adjust the park on the one I installed.
I ran a temp wire to my motor to test. Im glad I did that before I installed the other dash items.
Hows your Neck? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | ....if my arms were longer my neck would be fine! Thanks for heads up on the PARK....I'll check it next week. Glad I still have everything out of the dash except the guage cluster....but even then, the Newport system bolterd right in. The little plastic grommets were a little pain and I thought they were to big but with sme effort they popped in and they fit good to the trasmission arms and motor lugs. As I mentioned above. I think its a top notch set up. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 | Achipmunk, I'm looking to buy a wiper 12v conversion from Jim Carters but how did you get the discount? Thanx,

It use to be you had to make a contribution to the Bolt but I'm not sure they require that any more. Call them up, place your order and tell whoever is on the line you want your stovebolt discount..... and be sure to send a donation to headquarters Note: be sure to tell them you want the one that does NOT interfere with the choke cable. There is two numbers that are the same but the one they have in the catalog is not the one you want unless they changed it. The one you want will have two "C's" in the number. It is 4753CCT...and I'll bet its not in stock but it took only about 10 days until I got mine. Carter had it listed at $195 but with the discount mine was $175.50 plus shipping back in Sept. It listed on Newport Engineering site at $209 in Sept. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | The one I bought a couple years ago came with a look-alike chrome switch but it does stand a bit high off the dash... better than the modern looking one though. Only problem I've encountered so far is the long arm hit the defroster neck but a little bending the neck down fixed that.
The other thing is that I used the "L" bracket from the original vac motor instead of the twisted one that comes with it. No idea how that thing was supposed to fit but the stock bracket fit perfectly.
Not sure about the choke thing but if it does interfere I guess I could use the low (throttle) position or just use the electric choke on my Holley. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Woody, what you say are very good points. I didn't use the extra little bracket either.
I figured since the 4753CCT and the 4753CT were the same price it made since to get the one specifically to miss the choke/vent ect. The two speed knob that came with mine is a round black one that don't look out of place with my color.... but I do plan to do a little drilling on the new Maroon knob I have and change it out...later. I will say mine relly wipes/runs smooth. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 20 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 20 | I used a clear wipe motor and bracks I bought at a local hotrod shop. Works great two speed. It did hit the choke cable so I made the throtle cable my new choke caple. Took an old choke cable knod, built a bracket on the back side for the new switch and now my choke knob runs. my wipers | | |
