Bill, how smart do I have to be to operate one of these things? After I read your response I went back out, climbed in the truck, pushed the drivers door handle forward, scooted across the seat, got out on the P side, walked around, and the door was locked! How easy is that?. I had been trying to do the push forward on the handle to lock it --with the door open. Don't work that way does it? Works just fine your way. My 52 3100 only has a key lock on the passenger door. I figured the driver side was replaced at some point by a previous owner. This forum rocks! I have a lot to learn.

I changed my years ago to the drivers side but i have one on both side. the thing i don't like i can't lock and unlock with the key if the handle is used especially on the passenger side.

i have been told its the same reason barney and andy got out of the squad car on the same side it used to be against the law to open a door into traffic. philip

I switched the door handles so the key lock would be on the driver side on my '55 1st AD truck many years ago. Both doors still lock from the inside with the handle.

FYI: There are two separate locking mechanisms. The one operated with a key just prevents the button in the handle from being pushed in. The one operated from the inner handle locks the internal mechanism.
