My names David Kasler and I have a 1947 2-ton chevy that is starting to look right nice. The engine is a 261 inline 6 out of a 1959 2-ton. I have the cab restored and just about have it all put back together. I've done all the work myself from patching rust holes up to paint and rewiring. I installed an over-drive unit (controlled by the second shifter in the picture) that I haven't been able to test due to a failed re-end but hope to give it a spin in the next couple months.
List of work:
-replaced both rear cab corners
-replaced front cowl panels (included cut off front door post and reattaching)
-patched holes under windshield rubber
-fixed holes around mounting bolts on fender and inner fenders
-replaced bottem inside of passenger door
-reupholstered seat
-cab was completely dismantled and every part painted.
-installed over drive unit and shifter up to cab
-installed chrome grill bars
-rewired
-removed and reinstalled windows
-painted or replaced all cab trim
-changed front tires

Work to do:
-paint and install new metal sided bed
-find and fix re-end
-have drive shafts made.

The truck came from Minnesota I bot it off ebay and had a guy bring it down on the top level of his 55ft car carrier.
Wind up being a bit worse than anticipated but not to bad.
Didn't run when I got it so I pulled it down the road behind my Honda civic. I pulled it about a block and a half before it started running, and almost got my car smashed becasue my brother found out the parking break didn't work as well as we thought. It ran back to the house on it's own, with engine choked and missing. I tried to adjust it and it died and wouldn't re start. Found out the carb was half full of water and the tank had about 1 gallon more. Had to clean the tank three times and still have to replace my fuel filter every so often. Drove it around for a year before starting restoration and finding out my rear-end was hosed. Every once in a while when it was cold I'd be slowing to a stop and you'd hear a pinging in the drive line. like something was locking up. One time when I hit a pot hole at about 15mph I saw the hole drive line lock up for a second. I checked at the first sign for problems but the rear end turnt fine, but I found that my two drive shafts were only being held together by about 3/4 of shaft. So I assumed this was the noise I'd about lost them several times and didn't worry much more about it. During restoration I aimed to paint the frame and axle, but before I did I thought I'd replace the last wheel cylinder that hadn't started leaking. Well when I did that, I had a hard time getting the axle out and was unable to get it back in... THe reason was the pinging was actually in the rearend. One of my bearings on the carrier had failed, and judging by the silicone and the painted numbers on the one axle, and the wear marks on the carrier that are not on the current axle, it had been like that since before I bot it. I think they ran it out of oil lost a bearing and took that axle too. Then they half fixed it with a new axle but didn't fix the bearing. Now I need a carrier a bearing and ring and pinion... But hopefully I'll locate them soon. I'm getting very anxious to drive it again.

Got an update for anyone interested:I finally got the 47' back on the road. Restoration still not quite finished but I got her running again. The over drive works great if you can stand the transmission whining in 3rd gear... a problem I plan to soon rectify. I finally found me a replacement rear-end. Guy was junking out a 1954 2-ton. So I swapped rear-ends, now my front and rear rims don't match, the 1954 has the larger center hub and at least 2 of the four rims on the 54' axle will be unsafe to remount if I ever have to change tires. But it's getting me by for now.
As usual with me, my OD and drive line reconstruction got the trial by fire. I finished the truck just in time to help me move. So it got about 100 miles on it hauling 4 full bed loads of my junk and also pulling a trailer with it's new bed on it full of lawn mowers to my new place. Ran and drove great!
Good news is the trucks inside now! Still working on the bed got the smallest of the five panels sanded down only 4 to go!
And here is the photo bucket pictures so those with out facebook can see her.

Got another update on my Truck! I found a another parts truck. A 1952 with a 2 speed rear end!! With my overdrive that will make my truck 16speeds!!! I can swap rear ends now and use the original rims that are all nice and painted. Not to mention with the 8.10 rear end gears plus my .55 OD I'll be cruising at 55 with no transmission whining!
It will probably be a early to late summer project switching it over, I still have a barn to finish building! I wish I had the money I would have bot the guys 53 truck too it was pretty good shape! All well can't get them all!
