I'm posting a few pictures of my t-5 transmission installed.I modified the crossmember and rewelded some 1/4" plate in it.I used my mig welder to weld in the piece on the transmission access panel.

Tim,
Did you use a 45049? I'll be swapping my shifter eventually and that looked like the most logical application. If so, how much did you lengthen the shaft?

Tim, Looks great! Do you have a picture of the front side of your modified cross member. It's a little different than others have done. Looks interesting.

tlorber,it's the bnm45049 shifter for an s10.I had an old broken shifter from a 1966 chevy truck i use to own.I incorporated it into my t-5 shifter.I cut the 1966 shifter in two places.First cut was just below the threads for the knob.I wanted the b&m knob and the threads are different than a 1966.The second cut was 8 3/4" off the bottom of the 1966 shifter.I used a caliper to determine where to cut the b&m shifter,so the 1966 shifter and the b&m where the same diameter when welding together. The shifter is about 23 1/2" from the top of the base to the end of the shifter knob threads.

46forme,i can take some pictures of the front of the crossmember, but it looks like the rear of it.I know it only bolts into the frame one way,it's slightly tapered.I drilled a hole on top side for the mount stud to slip into.I then drilled a larger size hole on the bottom side, welded a large washer to it,so a 15mm socket can tighten the mount nut.The mount is bolted to the quarter inch plate i welded in.This is what i thought up,never done it before.Do you think it's ok ?

front of crossmember

I ground my welds down, heated and bent it,then primered it tonight.I installed it to see how it felt.I have'nt drove the truck yet,but it feels good just sitting in it and going through the gears. You could actually use a stiff wire or a coat hanger and bend it to get your heigth. This was all trial and error for me.

Here are a few pictures of it.

1966 & b&m combination

primered modified shifter

Hope this helps.

Tim,
Bolting the tranny into the member eliminated the need for spacer plates between the frame and some hole drilling. Way to go - another way to skin the cat.
Question: did you look at other options on the short throw shifter, Hurst, etc? If so what was the motivating factor for B&M?
Anybody have any ideas on other applications with long shifters and short throw kits, i.e Jeep T-5's etc.
Brett

I did look at the hurst, then looked at the b&m.The look of the b&m and there reputation and the price was right. But of coarse,i changed the look of the handle.

Tim, that's really looking good. I'm curious on you short throw shifter: If you measure with a tape measure up on the shift knob, what's the total distance between 1st and 2nd? Thanks, john.

John,at the base of the shifter it is only 1/2" travel. At the very tip of the knob it travels 7 1/2". Keep in mind i altered the shifter handle.I wonder what the travel would be with the original shifter and the handle i made ?

You have one beautiful truck there !!!

Thanks Tim! On my t-5 install: I bent the bottom portion so it wouldn't hit the seat and screwed the s-10 stick shifter back on. I have 8" of travel from 1st to 2nd up on top at the knob.

Since you are using the stock shifter and s10 shift handle.A taller one would mean even more travel.

Thanks for the information,Tim
