How do you lubricate the U-Joint in the enclosed driveshaft??(54' 3100)
When you lubricate the U-joint...what lube do you use ??

#67845 10/26/2006 11:36 PM | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | As per the 49-51 shop manual: "Remove square head pipe plug from rear of transmission case, lubricate the universal joint and propeller shaft bushings by inserting 1/2 pint of lubricant thru the opening and replace pipe plug." Use the same 90 wt. gear oil that's in your tranny.

After I replaced the u-joint I lubed with 90 weight gear lube via the square plug in the rear of the tranny. A pint is good, a quart is better mentality prevailed. After filling the tranny, I decided to check the rear end, and gear lube poured out. So note to self follow the manual. Ya don't need more than a cup or so to lube u-joimt. Jimmie. | | |
