I am ready to install the body to running board seal. Obtained them from Classic Parts of America along with the retainer strips. There is a 90 degree lip about a half inch wide along one edge. Does this lip go up against the body or down against the running board? No help in the maintenance manual so I am here to ask the experts.

Hi Weeds,
That lip goes up, inside the body and the wide flat part hangs down to the running board.
Good Luck,

And, if you are lucky, that seal will touch the top inside edge of the running board from end-to-end.

Did you get the rubber plugs from Jim Carter (to plug the pickup-cab apron-bolt holes in the top edge of the running boards)?

Sounds like you are moving right along, Weeds.

Tim and Marty, thanks for the advice. The little things left to do take forever. Get one thing done and 2 more pop up. I got the transmission problem sorted out thanks to Hot Rod Lincoln and the other guys over in the Engine and Driveline forum. I am gaining on it. Soon as the body to running board seals are done next comes the cardboard inside wall panels behind the front seats and then the feared, hated cardboard headliner. I think I would rather take a beating than rassle the headliner. Maybe It won't be as bad as I think. The front sheet metal is not yet on the truck but I have 21 miles on it just adjusting the transmission. It drives beautifully and I am happy with it so far. All you guys are the ones that keep me going and thank you so much. Running board plugs coming.

hey weeds, just got my running board seals installed just a short time ago. I had cut so much metal under mine I had to redrill the holes in the metal. Originally "screws" held it in place but since I had to redrill holes I used 1/4" bolrs.

Tim is right on about the seals just touching or hanging just inside the running board. I had one that was just a "tat" high but it turned out OK. The only thing I can say is don't cut it to short. If you cut it to short it'll leave a little "gap" back at the rear fender that you can see daylight through. I wish I had cut mine about 1" longer then trimed it closer if I needed when I got it bolted down.....did you save your old metal pieces that go on top and hold it down? I bought mine but the vendor only sent me two pieces as if it was a pickup....or maybe thats what I actually ordered....so I made the other two.

Let us know how it comes out. Good luck.

Alvin, I didn't have to make my seals. I got them from Classic Parts and the same thing happened to me, they sent me only enough for a pickup and not a suburban. I just bit the bullet and ordered again. I should have called them right away and explained the situation. I didn't open the box until I needed them and then discovered I only had enough for one side. I don't think I can install them in one piece. The series of holes under the door doesn't line up with the holes just aft of the door. They are at an angle with the holes under the door. I hope with the running boards installed I won't be able to see the difference. I bought running boards from TCs truck parts here in Cheesehead land. It looks like they are going to fit. They are made by Dynacorn (Tiawan) and are of lighter gauge steel than the originals. As for the seals so far so good.

Too late to help you guys, but Jim Carter sells the running-board-to-cab seals for panel-body trucks.

I'm sorry I somehow misled you guys. I got my rubber seals from JimCarter that were long enough. They were two strips and long aplenty. I put them where I thought they needed to go, drilled holes in all the new metal work and when I bolted them in I wish I had left about an inch more on the strips as they were just a tat to short....but, they do look good anyway.

Weeds, mine were rolled up and cantankerous to work with so I layed them out on the deck in the hot sun with the short rubber edge tucked down between the deck boards..then layed some heavy stuff on them. Let them lay there for two weeks. It sure helped when I was putting them under the panel by myself!!
