I have a 78' GMC Sierra Classic..( I know, I know, It doesent meet the pre-73' category haha) but its been restored and I just finished pulling the engine and putting a new cam in, different intake, and headers. It has glasspacks that are whoknow's how old. I really want some super 40 flowmasters. How well do they hold up, are they worth the cash,..or would some magnaflow's be just as good...

I just know flowmasters are known for their deep throaty sound.

I've got Flowmasters on everything. I personally wouldn't buy anything else.

How would flowmasters sound on a chevy six, with split headers???? Anybody try this?

There is no packing is Flowmasters to wear out and the cans are built out of heavier steel than any muffler I have ever used. You won't wear them out

Glen E., I tried to get some 40 series for my 292 the other day and every place in town had 2 1/4" and larger. And I live in a big town! 2 1/4" is much too big for my needs (I'm running 1 3/4" dual). So, decided to go with glasspacks. Sounds awesome! Not too loud at idle/slower speeds but, when you get on the gas it sounds cool. Yeah they'll wear out before Flowmasters but, at only $20 I can afford to swap 'em out. Another thing, I've read that Flowmasters aren't so masterful at flowing. I guess when tests were run they were one of the worst. Read that a couple different places. Could be propaganda, who knows.

For a QUIET low-restriction exhaust, use a mid-70's Cadillac muffler, or even two of them if you've got duals. They're 2 1/2" inlet and outlet, and one muffler is designed to handle a 500-cubic-inch engine. Most muffler shops can bend up a set of 2 1/2" pipes, and you're in business without all the ear-splitting noise of flowmasters.

I have a Flowmaster Delta 40 series muffler on my Chevy six, 292 engine with split tube headers. Sounds awesome, in my opinion. Most everyone who's heard it at idle and cruising swears that it sounds like a small v8.

Trick is I have a single muffler (which I highly recommend if you don't have a high RPM lumpy cammed engine), but have dual outs. This is how most of the newer trucks are set up. Rarely do you see true dual exhaust on a new (2000 & up) vehicle.

You don't gain much, if anything, performance-wise by having full dual exhaust on a mild street/strip built engine. Many here have also agreed that 2-into-1 gives a smooth but deep sound. If you decide to go with true duals, then you'll need to introduce a crossover (X) pipe to get the best sound.

I love the Flowmaster I have. It has a single 3 inch inlet and dual 2 1/4 inch outlets. I finish the exhaust system by running the outlets underneath the rear bumper, and have chrome rounded tips on the ends. The muffler I have is the aluminized steel one and it still looks like brand new.

I later snagged a stainless steel Delta flow muffler with 2 1/2 inch inlets and dual 2 inch outlets. The smaller inlet would work better with my setup. I'll probably change it out soon and will have no use for the other one. Email me and let me know if you interested.

I have a Flowmaster on my 261 powered 37 PU, headers, 2 into one ehxaust, 2-1/2 inch.I like the sound, smooth and urgent.The cam gives it a fair lope at idle,nice.I personally don't care for the rough sound of duals on a six,but my hearing sin't so good after 30 years of straight pipe motorcycles,lol.

Ear-splitting noise of Flowmasters? I have them on my 5.0 (ya, i know, a F***, but at least a pickup). I can downshift to 2nd at 70 mph, and engine rpm goes up to around 4000, and its not even close to earsplitting.

Flow's have a nice clean sound to them, and they don't pop like glasspacks do when you downshift, or let off of the gas. Also, remember that bigger pipes are better for hp, smaller for tq. I personally would never go smaller than 2 1/4 on anything I'll ever own.

Walker "DynoMax" Turbo mufflers.........They come in "legal-limit" and "California-legal".
I had the non-Calif. ones...........got a ticket too for exceeding the legal noise limit of 93dB..........Man, did they sound nice.......327 small-tube headers, 2-1/4" in/out and straight back........good rumble with 280 degree cam (110 lobe centers........great mid-range torque!) from Engle Cams............
We had a user here who used to work for Walker.........Was his name Danny? Or? I don't know, I can't remember s*%# anymore..........

248,I got a Walker cat back exhaust on my 94 S10 daily beater,the muffler starter rattling, figured the mighty 160 hp 4.3 blew out the baffles.Got another muffler,6 months later same problem, rattling baffles.My luck to get the only two bad mufflers Walker made,ya think?
