Does anyone have a suggestion about how to ship a bumper (at a reasonable cost) from the Worthington Minnesota area to Phoenix Arizona. So far the only option I have come up with is Greyhound for about $100. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Measure and weigh it, then go online to one of the above web sites. You can get an estimate, just feed in your figures. I'm thinking there will be an oversize charge because of the length of the bumper.

The U.S.Post office is your best deal.

I have found that Greyhound is not cheap. Just go to their quote site and see. What they are good for are parts too big and too heavy for the other carriers and sometimes you don't have to box it much or none, but they are very far from most peoples house. 2 lbs and below= USPS (to your door) above that= Fedex (to your door). UPS is almost never cheaper than those. Hope you are not buying a bumper back there and shipping to AZ. That will cost more than buying one here, NEW! If you own one back there, sell it back there and buy one here (phx area) Shipping wil kill you on a bumper!!!, when they are available for TF in most towns, new and used.

I gave up on sending large items by Greyhound Bus Lines because the local station's shipping manager is a jerk (he will often not give shipping estimates and he will not honor estimates he has given). After two bad experiences, I do not even try - competition is a wonderful thing: Fed Ex, UPS, and USPS (DHL was competitive but no longer available).

If you register for Fed Ex on-line and pay on-line, you now get a discount.

I shipped the bumpers from my '38 via UPS and it was pretty reasonable. I don't remember the price but I remember I didn't think it was out of line. Just be sure to wrap the bumpers with cardboard. I sent the first bumper "naked" & was charged more. I didn't figure it needed wrapped because it was really rust pitted and a bit of a bump or scratch wouldn't hurt a thing but they have a policy that everything should be packaged.

Do you know any Minnesota snowbirds? It seems like half of the old people around here go to Arizona for the winter, and the other half go to Texas! If you can wait a few months, maybe you can find someone who will bring it down for you. Just a thought.

I had a bumper shipped to me greyhound, the guy I bought it from said it was the cheapest, I check to make sure it was the cheapest turns out he was right. My bumper was only shipped about 150 miles though

wrap it with "saran wrap" and take it to Fed-X. I have shipped a couple at least half way across the USA for 18-22 bucks.

I might add this. Set up you a Fed-X account. It will save you a couple dollars AND if you can ship it to a BUSINESS address it will also save you a couple dollars.

I like having a Fed-X account as I have folks (who I deal with and trust) to ship me stuff using my fed-X account. That ensures I also get the best rate coming to me. OH, Fed-X GROUND is the way to go.... I also have less damage to packages than what I receive from UPS. Seems 2/3 of UPS are damaged.

A few years ago I had a rolling frame shipped from Arizona to Minnesota. Turns out this Minnesota (Minneapolis-based) company specialized in making regular runs between Arizona and Minnesota, primarily classic car/truck parts, whole vehicles, etc. Unfortunately I forgot their name, but possibly you could "Google" them.

FYI. For items too heavy to ship by Greyhound, UPS, Fedex go to freightz.com and get an online quote.
