The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop seized engine

Well I have a 46 now thats a fixer upper, drained the oil after I got it home and anti freeze came out first. That does not seem like a good thing to happen.Motor is seized, am putting a mixture of brake fluid ,diesel fuel and trans fluid in the spark plug openings. We are using a four wheeler to rock it in gear to get the motor free every few days. I have heard of problems trying to tow seized engines, but, can anyone see anything wrong with rocking it to budge the engine. The condition of the engine bay is very good and all parts are on the engine so nothing was open to the elements. Any ideas welcome. Thanks Murray

.... antifreeze coming out with the oil is not a good sign. Sounds like maybe there is a crack in the block or something. I do notice your in Canada so is there a chance the engine has frozen and burst?

You can rock the truck or try other ways. I always pulled the flywheel inspection cover and used a BIG screwdriver in the flywheel teeth to try move it back and forth. I too had a 1946 that was stuck back in 1985. I ended up pulling the head after a couple weeks of soaking with the diesel, marvel mystery oil and Kroil. After pulling the head I took me a round piece of firewood that would fit down in the cylinder and popped each piston a few times, let it soak a day or two, did it again and then the flywheel moved about an inch. After a week, working in the evening, I finally got it free, put the head back on and started it up. It actually ran good. I later sold it and it was still running.
The antifreeze scares me though!!!

Head gasket??? or worse yet a cracked head. Hope not though.

Where it came from it gets really cold, I mean freeze the nuts off a bridge cold, so my first thought was a crack as well. Found out motor ran last approx. 3 years ago and oil level was up to full mark on dipstick before draining.
