Hi all,

I am in the process of reassembly of my rear hubs on my 1952 2 ton.I was cleaning everything up and noticed the bearing rollers are of an oval shape. Is this correct? It is a Timkin 2 speed rear. The bearings are "Hyatt" brand. Also I am going to replace the gear lube . There is a plug at the front of the 2 speed unit just behind the yoke. If I remove it and refill from this point will the lube flow through and fill the "pumpkin" to the correct level?One more question to you brake experts. When I install the new brake shoes how do you get the correct adjustment. I was told to adjust them until tight against the drums and then back off on turn on the adjusters.Is this correct?

tighten until light dragging and the back off three notches (same as in 1951).

The bearings could be barrel rollers, as the name implies, they look like a barrel. Fat in the center and skinnier on the ends.

The conical wheel brgs are normal for those. Make sure there are no pits or scoring in them. The replacements are generally straight rollers. If you have to replace one be sure to replace the whole unit. You are supposed to replace both the inner & outer when you change them over. The rear end fills through the plug on the rear cover. Do not desturb the nut & adjuster in back of the yoke. It seems The electric 2 speed drive took 10 weight oil in the bottom, filledthrough a little plug. I don't remember about the vacuum drive.
