That must mean test engines. They couldn't run one like that & sell it.

Keep in mind they are connected to a dyno at the time, they aren't just freewheeling on their own.
I work for a research company that runs diesel engines at peak HP & torque non stop, other than normal oil changes etc. for months at a time!(or until failure)(750 HP-1500Ft/lbs)
Amazing sometimes how good a condition they are in, and how long they last!

The engine test cell operators are usually bored to death, and some test cells are automated to run on their own, shutting down automatically when something goes amiss.
If I can find it next week, I'll add a pic thats shows a fully loaded diesel so hot all the exhaust, turbo & ductwork is glowing neon purple, its very cool!
