From Tom :

I have messed with mostly newer trucks. My last was an 2006 Silverado show and drive. I am getting older and wanted an older truck. To me, they are just cooler.

A friend told me about his friend who had a 1957 sitting behind a shed. The daughter had inherited it after the gentleman, unfortunately, had passed away. It has been sitting for about three years. Anyway, he said he didn't have the money, so he let me have a shot. Me and my wife drove over to look at it. The next weekend it was in my driveway.

I put the old truck on a rollback and got it home. Ten miles from home, we almost had a disaster. The winch holding the truck freespooled while leaving a stop sign. Luckily for me, the rear chains holding the truck kept it from falling off the rear of the rollback. BIG lesson learned.

This truck is a 1957 big window 3100 with a 235. The original color was red with ivory (white) around the window. The plan is to IFS the front and 4 link the rear to bring it down. Want to add power steering, power brakes, power windows and disc brakes up front. Jury is still out on A/C. Need some feedback.

Plan on a turbo on the 235 and a 350 tranny, but not sure about the rearend. Thinking 3.08 -- can this be done with the original or do I 12 bolt it? Want to keep it GM, so no 9 in. More help needed.

Red steel wheels with wide whites and spike lugs and centers. Plan on adding a visor. That's a must.

Hope the old Bolters can steer me in the right direction. Does this sound feasible? Am I missing something important? I never have done a total ground up rebuild, but looking forward to it.

Thanks in advance.
