Hi All,

I am currently working on removing the head on my 1954 Chevrolet 3100. I have everything stripped down and ready to go, however i am unsure as to whether or not there is a specific pattern in which the bolts need to be removed? Any Ideas? Thanks

I don't know a specific pattern for removal, but one for installation. You can always do the reverse if you're not sure.

I've managed to get the head off, could you please tell me the installation pattern? Thanks

Torque spec is 90-95 foot pounds. The installation pattern is from the center outward in a clockwise pattern. It would be a good idea to torque them in two or three steps 30 lb. 60 lb. 90 lb.

Best thing to do is get a repair manual for You're truck all that info is there and that way You can have it right in front of You as You're working on what ever project You're doing at the time ,less likly to make mistakes and don't need to wonder if You remember right or not.

When my head is finished at the machine shop next week, I plan on using the method outlined by T'mater, that's the way I also have done them. If it even looks like one of them is twisting or in poor shape, buy a set of headbolts.

Well, good luck finding new ones. They were like hens teeth when I was looking for them. Hopfully someone is now making them.
