Any suggestions on how to remove and replace the bearing races without the special tool would be very welcome. Same for installing the sector shaft outside bushing. I have no press, no old sector shaft to use as a tool, and I think trying to pound it in with a socket etc,. would damage it.
Unless someone has some clever ideas I probably need to go to someone with the right tools.

Its a slow steady way of getting them in straight. You should be able to get on the race with a long thin punch from the back side. My older box had small cut outs just for this, not sure about yours, but it worth a try.

There is no way to get at the backside of the worm shaft bearing races. Anyway, if I look at them without my glasses they look perfect. Actually the inner races on the worm gear have more marks and I am not going to replace that entire shaft so I might as well use the old outer races too. They really are not bad, just that I know it would be better to have the new bearings in new races.
