I have an intake and carb off of a 348 / 409 that appears to be off of a medium/heavy duty truck because it has some sort of governor on it. I will dig it out and post pics and numbers off of it to identify. I was just curious who would need it and what it's worth. Any info?

Hy bullittben, I have a couple of them, one in a 59, and one in a 60. I take it you have a four barrel carb and manifold?

That's right. We haven't looked at it in years, so I'll try to get it out and get some more info. I just wondered whether anyone would need it.

The passenger car 348 intakes aren't worth anything, I've given a couple away. I'd guess the truck stuff is worth even less.

Wow, around here a 348 Intake in good condition would be worth at least $75 to $100. With a good Carb on it you could double that price. If they were a matching set even more.

I'm not really up on the Truck Intakes and Carbs, but I would say they would have some kind of decent value.

That's about where I was on it Bill. Hopefully I'll be able to get it out this afternoon. It should be worth something to the right guy, that's usually the key.

Ben, I sent you a PM. I don't know what I'd do with it but maybe I could find and engine block and more parts to go with it someday? smile I just think one of thosw would make a nice conversation piece sitting down in a piece of old iron.

When I taught at a Tennessee state vo-tech school in the mid-1980's, we had a brand new, never-fired 409 engine for a 1965 Impala that had been donated to the school by GM when it opened in the early 1970's. We disassembled it once, and there were still felt-tip marker notes on the piston crowns, indicating the weight in grams!

I got offered $3,000.00 by a collector once, if I'd take a 30-minute coffee break after the students left for the day, and come back to find a 348 in place of the 409. I refused the offer! After I moved on to another job, they closed the shop down and the engine disappeared. Don't know where if finally went!

...there was a sale and he bought it for $500! smile

Sorry Jerry, couldn't resist but I have seen such things happen at Vocational Schools with stuff when they were simply "upgrading" the material. But of coase a savy guy would know the dip stick was on the wrong side...or was it the oil filter..or both?
