You will want the electric fan to assist the mechanical fan in pulling the outside air into the engine compartment. Sounds like you have other over-heating problems anyway. Have you flushed the system? Maybe take the radiator out and see if you can flush any nastiness out of it. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 720 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 720 | Runnin 2 fans in a row is kind of redundant, one or the other should be more than enough, & reversing the one will only slow the flow of air and make the engine hotter.
If you're not seeing an improvement on your engine temps proper flushing may be in order at the very least. Pulling it out and having a radiator shop look at it may better, some of these older cores get so fouled up you could pack it in ice and it would still run hot. You may also try replacing the thermostat. Since you're driving in the heat of TX I'd replace it with a performance high volume thermostat, helps keep the water temp lower by increasing the rate of circulation. 1956 GMC 370 dump " 'Tater "1970 VW Volksrod "the Black Bomber" 2007 Chevy Avalanche 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things. But thats just MY opinion! :P

Choose one that is about 2/3's the size of your radiator and put it on the engine side as a "puller". If not enough room because of the mechanical fan then take the mechanical fan off and run only a good electic. This of coarse is just my opinion but I see a LOT of cars/trucks running on the electric fan these days. LOTS of them, old originals and newer updated ones. Let us know what you decide and what ends up being the problem as well as the fix. We all learn from one another. | | |
