Has anyone ever used Nason 2k urethane paint to paint the frame of a truck? Just wondering if its worth the money i paid for it. I used the Nason Chasis Black and didnt like it and i hope this is better. Also do i need to prime the frame first? I will be using phospheric acid to prep the metal first and it is down to bare metal. The guy at the paint shop said it would be fine. any ideas?

I painted mine with Rustolium gloss black... no primer, painless, inexpensive and simple. I'm using the Nason 2k stuff for the body parts.

Gumbi - Just curious, what didn't you like about the Nason? I'm looking at getting a gallon for my 3800.

The Nason Chasis Black didn't seem to dry hard enough. I did half the frame and all of the rear suspension and axle with it and i looks good but it didn't seem to dry hard enough. I Set some things on the frame a week after i painted it and when i picked them up it seemed to stick and pull paint off. This is the pre-mixed stuff and i used rustoleum primer underneath it. I was very disapointed with the outcome of that paint. After i saw this and started looking for something else to go to i noticed a lot of bad reviews on the pre-mixed nason as well. Its a lot cheaper but i wouldn't recommend it. The urethane is more expensive but is supposed to be more durable.

So does anybody think it would be better to throw donwn a primer first. would the Rustoleum primer be good enough to do the job?

I believe some stuff doesn't need primer. I don't prime a frame and I don't prime a tractor other than the sheet metal.
Why bother with the primer, put two coats of paint on.

The factory didn't prime the frame first and I don't find any primer under the tractor paint.

I'm not saying there is no use for primers, only that some times I don't bother with it.

Primers that seal or lock in rust are good, but sometimes I feel I can get to carried away with this idea of making something in-destructible.
