You put the same link up twice.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

The rear housing-cover was different in different years and for different sizes of trucks. The brake on the back is a drive-shaft (propeller shaft) parking brake, used on many large trucks. What year/size truck do you want to use it in (and, open or enclosed drive shaft)?

It looks like a 4 speed non synchro transmission that predates the sm420, commonly referred to as a crash box. I need more pictures to be able to tell. | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 150 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 150 | I'm with BigDaddy on this one, it's a Pre 1948 transmission. If you would post the id numbers on the side of the transmission case, someone here could probably interpret it for you. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | I posted a few photo-links in my post above - it sure looks likes it's an SM420. Can anyone provide a photo-link for a side-view of an earlier "crash box" 4-speed? This is supposedly a photo of the earlier transmission (note the reverse-lever near the top of the shift-lever/handle) Here is the location of the SM420's date casting-code. H3061 H = Aug 30 = 30th day 61 =1961 This code is near the top of the driver's side of the case (I cannot make out the code shown in archie's photo above). The size and shapes of code letter/numbers are different over different SM420 years. | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 33 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2010 Posts: 33 | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 33 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2010 Posts: 33 | yes it has a split shifter? bar at the top. the best number i could get off the picture with enhancement was 103882 gm 591907 i will take a rubbing of this unit tommarrow | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,927 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,927 | I think the one with the brake on the back is a SM-420, but I did not see the shifter very well. The other one, more rusty without the brake does have the little rod beside the shift rod so I agree it is pre-48.

Which "IT"?
The one with the brake on the back looks different from the one in the truck? What year truck has the one mounted in it (the one with the split shifter)?

And, the covers are different on the two transmissions that I am able to view (the link-s do not work well).

Even if they fit to the motor i like a 5 speed. | | |
