He's telling me that with dual tanks, I have to have gas in both tanks, or the truck won't start and run. (Apparently, my father-in-law ran the back tank dry when he borrowed it.)
Now I may be thinking old school, prior to all of this computerized junk they use these days, but this just isn't computing with my brain.
Why would the truck care whether or not one tank has fuel if you're trying to run the truck off of the other tank and it's full?
Anyone out there know anything about this topic?

If one tank is dry, the other will provide fuel. If it is a definite fuel problem, and neither tank supplies fuel when switched on the dash, I would suspect the switch, power to the switch and / or the tank selector valve. A bad selector valve could also not provide the proper power to the proper pump. Along the way could be relays, fusible links, etc. Start at one end and work towards the other.
Short version: your truck won't care if one tank is dry. | | |

He told me if it ever starts to die, meaning run out of gas, while driving, switch the tanks as quick as possible or you won't be able to switch them without adding gas to the empty tank. I think the valve hangs up with fluid on one side and air on the other. Don't know for sure, but this urban legend is true,
