Hey All, I have split rims on my 1953 3600. What's the story on split rims good or bad. I hear that they are not legal in Ca.
Thanks Cardo

You'll find most shops won't touch them unless it's a big rig tire shop. I just noticed that they now reproduce an 8-lug rim for your truck. Can't remember the company, Vintage Wheel or something. Otherwise scope out the junkyards for 16" rims off of a K2500 from the 80's. If you do, check to see that the backspacing will work.

You'll find some info on multi piece rims in this Tech Tip

Likely your rims are OK and not "split rims".

The name of the company making the 16" 8 lug rims is Wheel Vintiques. It is a new product for them.

I sent my wheel centers off to Stockton wheel in CA. They put new one piece rims on it...looks just like the originals and now no hassle with the split rim problems.

I think it's important to point out that these wheels in question are more than likely not "split rims" and as such do not deserve the bad name/reputation that goes along with the term "split rim"

In fact they are likely lock ring wheels, either two or probably three piece. This wheel design is still manufactured today and is well accepted, often used on heavy equipment and trucks.

I'm not saying that switching to tubeless wheels is a bad idea, it's what I'd do in this case.
But don't give the folks that like and want to use the stock lock ring wheels the idea that they "have to" get rid of them, this is not the case, and not a myth worth perpetuating.

Again, check the tech tip for some info on the different types of wheels.

Just found that Ford Econoline 16" rims fit our 3600 trucks and the stock 3/4 ton hub caps fit the center. Many 8 lug wheels have to small an opening if you want to attach the stock cap.
I'll attempt to link to my webshots. photos. I found that these wheels are very inexpensive, but not all that easy to identify. I've seen some on ebay. Also they have a small Ford oval logo stamped in the center between the lug holes.

Also I talked to Wheel Vintiques and had them measure the center and stock Chev cap wont' fit.

F-250 wheels fit also. Ford changed to metric lugs in 1999. The newer ones won't fit.
