The few clips on my trim were also at the top so either they were installed wrong or more likely, they keep the trim properly spaced and keep you from getting a wave effect by drawing the screws down too tight.

Sooo, anyone. Does the clips go all the way around???...OR just where the defroster vent is at??

On the bottom is 4 wire clips - 1 on either side of the defrost vent . The wire clips have some spongy rubber molded on to them.I imagine the spongy rubber clips are to keep the defrost air from escaping around the inside of the trim.These are original and I have no idea where to get replacements. 52 GMC . The rubber was really nasty and I didn't realize there was a clip inside- they are gone now. It makes sense what you said about the defrost. Mine didn't have outlets but the rubber was placed about where they would be.
