Well I went with R+R fiberglass rear fenders big mistake, they don't fit at all so I called him and told him and he said to ship them back but no help on shipping so thats 250.00 down the drain.

So I got to ask is it normal to have to heat them and reform them to fit not a little I mean alot all the bed bolt holes are above the fenders by at least 1 1/2 inchs all the way around the fender and the top is angled down by that much toward the bed side? He said to heat them and reform them and then bolt them to the truck and let them that way for a month you kidding me?

I won't say that there wouldn't be some fitting that has to be done to make an aftermarket body part (steel or 'Glas) fit properly, but to be as far off as what you got is rediculous. You should not have to heat and reform a part like that to make it fit.
He also should have taken care of the shipping.

Hey Pete, I sympathize with you, vendors make mistakes, they're just human. But when they won't fess up to it and just take your money that just taint right. There is obviously something drastically wrong with the batch that he sent you.
Like Bill said, we can expect to make some minor adjustments especially to a new body part but to tell you that you have to reform the shape of the fender to make it fit is absolutely ridiculous, I've never heard of anything like that. That would be akin to telling you to take a hammer and dolly to a new steel fender and reform it to fit because it was out of shape by a 1 1/2".

Pete, sorry you had a bad experence. As you know I have always had high praises for R&R. Now I feel guilty!
I have thought about the bed being 1 1/2" above the bolt holes in the fender and I just have to ask if the bed blocks are the right height? None the less, you should NOT have problems your having especially with the angle we discussed. I wish I had better advice.... now I'm reluctant to recommend them. It doesn't take away the pain but know we have all been there at one time or another.
Keep us posted on what you do.

Yes I set the height on the bed but even if you just hold the fender to the bed you can get the first holes to line up but then the others are no where near fitting well live and learn.I can not let this take the fun out of the build.I'll be in Kansas city this year with fenders and my 52-3100.

I used u.s.body.com for my rear fenders on my 52 an they fit darn near perfect right outta the box..mine were not pre-drilled just had the hole outlines in the glass from the mold ...but they were near perfect and alighnment to the runnin boards was really good.
me an my son installed em in no time.
you can check em out in my photo bucket on Casper I think they fit really well.

What's your "Photobucket on Casper" Tim???? All I saw in your Photobucket pictures were the finished truck, nothing about the rear fenders.

Were the fenders that far off right out of the box? If so, the vendor should at least allow you some time for cleanup. This is a partial refund to cover the cost to make them fit. This is a standard procedure for body shops that recieve damaged parts. Quicker for the bodyshop, and cheaper for the vendor to handle the claim this way. If you received the fenders and didn't bolt them on the truck right away, the vendor probably won't be that willing to help. Glass parts stay green for quite awhile and as they cure will move around alot. The reccomendation is to mount them as soon as possible so they cure in place to the shape you want. Heating a glass part to reform it, is a standard procedure. If they are off as far as you say, it's probably more than a curing issue.

I tried to install the day after I got them and called him right away then I e-mailed him pics of the problem he said to reform them and then leave them bolted to the truck for a month are you kidding me?

Sounds like the problem is not just a bad fit, it looks like it may be the wrong fender.

Big Chevy , they look the same from the side what do think they are ? If they are the wrong fenders mabe He'll take them back

Check to see if the 54 and 55 1st are close but not the same as yours. Did you pay with a credit card? If so you need to put this transaction in dispute. If this vendor does business with many guys like us you can threaten him with bad reports that will ruin his reputation.

I'll call the credit card company in the mourning I'll look in the gallery to see the fender diff. With his attidude we should not buy anything from this guy!!!!

I checked at the gallery and at clasic parts and the fenders are all the same from47 to 54 1st the 55s are alot diff.

It was hard to tell from your pictures what your concern is, just a couple of fenders sitting in the bed of your truck. Do you still have your old fenders? If so, match them up flange to flange to your new fenders, right to left and left to right so we can see how far they are off. My glass fenders came without mounting holes so I used the old fenders as a template. It took a bit of coaxing and a few clamps to get them to match up, then I marked the holes for drilling. It also took some force to get them mounted on the bed, but they pulled down tight and look great. Mine came from Old Chicago Street Rods. I can't think of any other old trucks where the rear fenders are close enough to be mistaken for an AD fender.

Well today I'm going to make the pc. of plywood and build a gig to bend them I'll get back here later with pics I hope this works.

i also bought rear fenders room r+r. my truck is a 46. i recieved the fenders and they had pitting and cracking in the jelcoat and no lip in the wheel opening. icalled r+r they said they didnt know what to tell me, the mold were made off of original fenders they said i could return, but iwould have to pay return shipping plus 30% restocking charge. not made of money i could not afford to return. my body man went to work on the fenders and templated the wheel openings and found the openings egg shaped and compeletly different side to side also. be very careful !!! never again for me

Well I tried to fix built a gig and all. R&R fenders are JUNK DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS GUY JUNK< JUNK< JUNK take a look at the pics and you will see and when I called him no help in shipping out 250.00 because what he does is you pay for shipping on your side so he's not helping with ANYTHING 430.00 for fenders out 250.00 shipping so the fenders cost Me 250.00 and he gives Me back 430.00 so I'll still be out the 250.00 and NO FENDERS ,I'v been having so much fun building this truck and this just is tacking the fun out of the hole thing,Boy am I PIS###

i totally feel your pain. i cant remember price of fenders but at 430.00 this is how it worked for me to return this garbage. 430.00 = 250.00 shipping =680.00. 250.00 return shipping + 30% restocking fee =129.00 =379.00 for a total 1059.00 r+r offers me back a total of 301.00 so to get 301.00 back it. costs me 758.00, and he makes 129.00 for my aggravation

the site should email the members and in turn they can post on other sites and boycott this guy

I agree with the boycott. This should be a service for membership on any forum. There should be a rule that after ___ number of complaints a red flag should be placed on these guys. I'm not interested in retribution but protection from crap vendors.

I'll go for that BIG time in 44 years of being a constuction electrican I never did this to anyone.

UPDATE, I've gotten glass shy and am going steel, I'm ordering them tomorrow to bad ,I spent the money at R&R frist now the hole thing will cost ALOT more.I will not forget what they did to me or maybe try and do to my fellow bolters.

I think in the long run the steel is a better bet if one can afford it.
