In need of a new/rebuilt master cylinder for 1950 3100; assuming everything on the truck is original or nearly so. Contemplating buying an entire brake system kit, (shoes, hoses, etc.) as well as a complete MC unit.
Any online stores Stovebolt posters recommend for this sort of thing? I won't be doing this work myself, and don't want to buy CRAP. Mabel and I both thank you in advance for any advice and support. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | I always try my local parts houses first. Our CarQuest still has "books" to look up old parts in and they can usually get them overnight. They even had a master on the shelf for my 64 2 ton, Scott | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Kanter auto products has complete kits, but like Scott I get my parts from Carquest. Ive had good luck with there linings. Some of them you get now are hard & take a lot of pedal pressure to stop. Often you can rebuild the master cyl. & wheel cyls. yourself. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Since you are doing the complete brake system, I would seriously consider upgading your brakes to a newer version even if it's only replacing the wheel cylinders with a '51 set. You'll find the newer cylinders are much cheaper then the "huck" cylinders. Check the Tech Tips here for ideas.

The rules change. The parts stores don't show much for those any more. It would be best to change over to later model brakes or get the parts from specialty suppliers like Classic Parts or American classic. They say money can't buy happiness. Jimmy just beat their prices. Hank | | |
