First post here.

I bought this little 63 truck off the junk man. He was on the way to the scrap yard to sell it for recycling. It's a legit 1 owner truck with the original owners manual and paperwork in the glovebox. No rust repairs needed anywhere. It's 100 percent solid. Problem is, the original engine was blown.

In the 2 months that I've had it I converted the front suspension to 84 model stuff to get disc brakes. I rebuilt it all with new bushings, ball joints, shocks, brakes, etc. powdercoating everything. In the rear, I used a 72 model rearend to get 5 lug wheels. Again, new trailing arm bushings, springs, shocks, brakes, all of that.

Under the hood, I built a 327 engine with everything powdercoated.

New bed wood and strips from Mar-K

Fresh seat cover inside with all cleaned and detailed interior parts, again powdercoated.

Don't let the powdercoating fool you, I am certainly not well off, I just run a powdercoating shop on my days off (I'm a fireman so I get a good number of free days).

I still need to put a windshield in it and do some detailing of the wire harness. I should be driving it daily in another month or so.

Pictures are on my photobucket, or better pictures and captions on my blog.

Once I get this thing on the road my next project is already waiting. I have a 78 model 1 ton dually cab and chassis truck (narrow dually rearend for flatbed). The cab is junky so I'm looking around locally for a late 40s, early 50s heavy truck to use for cab and front clip onto the later dually chassis.

There is an awful lot of distance between that new aluminum radiator and the engine fan. Shroud ?

I'm not too crazy about it either. I used the radiator because it's what I had. I actually had to offset it a few inches toward the battery to make the hoses work. I wish I could have afforded the proper radiator for it.

The 230 wouldn't carry any oil pressure. To make matters worse, I bought a good used runner 250 from a buddy for 100 bucks. That's the one I painted and detailed before installing. Once I got it running, zero compression on number 2 cylinder and lots of blue smoke. So, the 327 is actually the third engine in this truck in a month.

Yes you might need a shroud for it. Will you paint it some time or are you going to leave it in Rat Rust look?
Nice start on the truck and Heavy Rust Free! Great that should be a snap to prep for paint. I just wish mine was heavy rust free.

I plan to leave the truck looking as it does now. I'm a rabid swap meet guy so I use my trucks as trucks. I don't abuse them or anything, but haul too much stuff to worry about scratches.

Not my style but WAY TO SAVE ONE! The old paint looks great. Glad you keep it out of the crusher and then on a ship to China.
