Hi from New Brunswick, Canada

I'm a new poster but I've gotten a lot of info from this site in the past.

I thought that some of you might be interested in my first (ever) vehicle - I bought a 1949 Willys 1/2 ton 2WD. Why am I posting this jeep on a GM site? Well, I thought that a lot of you just like old trucks in general - I've also gotten so much help from the tech tips here, and I always wanted a GMC/Chevy but sadly the pickings are kind of slim in this area of the continent.
So please don't take me to the back woods and shoot me for not having a GM.

My truck has the original 4 cylinder go-devil Jeep engine from WWII. It is rusty....real rusty. Frame falling-apart rusty...no floor rusty. The fenders and grille are in rough shape. The cab is the worst. The box died a slow death ages ago.

I'm going to try to repair everything and keep it mostly original. I will probably build a flatbed with stakesides to use on the farm up here. I won't paint the whole truck - indeed, this will be put back into active farm service. I hope to get a safety inspection for it (one day) so I can drive it to university (dreaming, dreaming).

I'm working on getting down to the frame and will rebuild everything from the ground up. The engine will require some work, but for the most part it's in good shape (got it running the other day, I pulled the truck out of the woods for $300 so I was very pleased. Kind of like discovering chocolate at age 6 - exciting).

As I said before, I've never owned any car, much less a vintage truck. I'm 16 and didn't really know much about cars until recently. My Grandfather is helping out a lot. I'm one of the luckiest young restorers out there: he has his own woodworking/mechanic workshop that he is letting me use. He has a '29 Olds that was in there until recently (he moved the olds out, and smashed up his other car pushing my truck in - what a great guy.)

I'll post some more photos as the restoration progresses.

I like all old iron. That's a nice looking project. I hope to someday find an old Jeep for myself.

Welcome to the "Stovebolt"

Welcome to the bolt Gier. To each his own.

John, I know where a couple nice ones are at but the guy has had them since I was about 16 and won't part with them..... the sad part is he is the same age as me and I ain't likely to outlive him smile

Gier, Good luck on your jeep project. Keep us posted.

Welcome aboard. You will find that we all have skeletons in our closets. You have one of the best of the early 4x4 trucks. Best of luck to you with it, just don't give up.

Thanks a lot folks, I removed the steering column today so I should be able to get the cab off to get at the frame.

Cheers - Kier
