Some of these transmissions come with an electronic sender in the tail housing... these would be the gm models which have a shorter tailshaft. 4 wd models rely upon the speedo gear in the transfer case.
Is there any way to overcome the electronic speedo problem to make the old mechanical guage work? | | |

Mounts under dash and drives the old mechanical speedo. It is fully adjustable to get speed right! Unit runs about 300 bucks. Can order direct or go through a Speedo Shop. Nevada Speedometer in Sparks, NV is in the know (tech support!) and where I ordered mine from.(775-358-7422). http://www.atrol.com/cablex.htm

Once wired and all the dip switches set it is maintence free and right on accurate. You may hear a faint wine from electric motor that drives the speedo cable but is barely noticable and only when moving. Modern transmission and original restored speedometer and it all works great!
