I'm stripping my paint with Mar-hyde,taking parts off one at a time.On the fender wheel wells I would like to protect from rust.Is it best to use X-O rust paint or some sort of "rubberized"spray on product? Also has anyone ever heard of using Rhino liner on rims of wheels? Thanks

I considered Rhino Liner for the inside of my fenders and under my cab, but it became logistically difficult because I would have to get all the parts down to the shop for spraying. I ended up using POR15 and then POR Hardnose paint. I think it should hold up well. And if there are any chips or scratches I just touch it up. I do think the thickness of the Rhino Liner would be good in the fenders due to rocks being banged against them.

Rhino Liner on rims, I've seen a whole truck sprayed with the stuff, but it was ugly and it was a 4x4 mud bogger.

what about some sort of aerosol type coating, like Mar-Hyde or Permatex?I've also read in this site about Tractor Paint? Just checking out our options.(for inner fenders)The rim query was asked because we have some cheap arse chrome that is rusty and pitting,so I might just wire brush and prime till we can do better.Any suggestions would be considered. Thanks,Joseph

I have not used the tractor paint, but others have had good luck with it. Not sure if any paint will adhere to chrome. May have to have them sandblasted then paint. I used Eastwoods Ceramic Chassis Black on my rims. It is pretty good stuff.

I'm the tractor paint nut. Worked good on the Pickle but I wasn't looking for a show finish. I put a little more effort into the Fried Green T'Mater painting inside and out but it hasn't been out in the real world enough to give a full report.

On the POR-15 application, isn't it necessary to do the 3 step process?I think we're with Mater and the Pickle, tractor paint style, since we are building a decent driver.Although Por-15 will probably be best in the long run! Thanks Again!

Joseph, take a look at this post about Les Schwab powdercoating rims. Where in NE Oregon are you? There should be a shop nearby.

There is a Les Schwab here in Enterprise, also there is a shop in Lostine that powder coats for about $25.00 a rim.

I have not done it myself but I would think the powder coat would be your best bet.

My appologies to magfarm51 and others who really get off on the powder coating and rhino lining. Give me all the greif you want, but I just can't get into "coating" too much stuff with other than automotive primers, paints and undercoating. To me other products are hard to fix when it chips or scratches. Hard to redo when needed and has a less than superior shine. Maybe a grill guard or a bumper. Yes I'm sure it is durable, and so is Imron paint. Imron is another kick that I couldn't get into. Yes, it is great stuff, but I just can't get past it for my self. I guess it comes from trying to remove the stuff to repaint the part when it comes time. I'm sure most of us won't ever redo the same vehicle again and what ever you put on will probably outlast us anyway so, it probably doesn't matter. OK, Lay it on me guys.

No problem Steve. As I said, I haven't experienced powder coating myself, just going by what I've read and it sounded like a good idea. You raised some valid points and I will definitely keep those in mind when it comes time for me to do the same thing.
