I dont know much about mechanics for i am learning lil at a time. Anyways there is this ticking noise or somthing when i start it up and it stays at the same noise the whole time. Could it be the lifters? I am lost at this point. I hate to have to drive my truck around sounding like that and i dont want it to effect my engine and all. ANy clue. Sorry for the lil info i could share. Blah!!!

1)oil level full but not overfull?
2)using a pipe or hose can you pinpoint the
area it is comming from ?
3)try to load the engine(in gear)to see if
noise gets louder
4)let us know what you find out

#59549 04/24/2006 3:08 AM | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 483 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 483 | Using a solid rod or long screwdriver 18" or longer touch the end of the solid rod to the engine part that is making noise.With your ear next to rod you should hear the noise very clear I use this tequnic for manny engine noises including generator bearings.CAUTION keep away from moving parts. | | |

I had a truck that did that and I thought it was the lifters but it was a hole in the pipe next to the firewall.
Depending on where it is and how big/small a hole makes a big difference as to the sound it makes.
