I have heard copper is the way and then aluminum is the best. What is better? Cost is about the same so far on quotes. Using a mild 350/350 trans combo.
Thanks for the info. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats | | Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 | Aluminum is lighter, Copper is only a slightly better conductor of heat. In my mind, Aluminum. Plus, I can get a custom Aluminum Rad for about half the cost of a copper one.

There are several stores that carry the Champion brand. How are they in regards to quality and performance? I have a gmc and have contacted one of the vendors in regards to the manufacturing of a bolt in option for the AD series GMC. It is anticipated that Champion will produce one in about 6 months( hopefully). If the quality is there then this is a great option and is very reasonably priced. I have not been looking for a 1939 but if you contact one of the vendors they will check with the manufacturer. Ledfoot racing was the store I contacted and they were very friendly and helpful. Good luck and let us know what you find out and/or eventually use. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 | I bought a new Harrison 4 row radiator at NAPA for less that $200.00 for my '54 GMC. I don't think you could buy one cheaper and Harrison is the original equipment supplier. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Oldchevy: Last spring I purchased a Griffin Aluminun Universal from "caparadiator" in NY for $250 good for up to 400hp. I did have to get my friend to stitch a small flat aluminum piece on the side and then drill the holes but it is nice. I got the aluminum pieces at Lowes to attach to the sides.... just another option/thought. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,191 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,191 | | | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 47 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 47 | Thanks for all of the input. The radiator is thicker then stock and the lower outlet exits straight out instead of the curved outlet of the original. I have mine lower in the housing so the fan will clear the lower outlet, so I can't say if the filler opening is correct for a '37 or not. With the extra hose I had to have on the lower inlet, the whole system holds about 1.5 gallons more coolant then the stock radiator did.
