my 1967 (SEE PICs IN MY SIG) is a pretty good ole truck for me and I like almost everything about it exept the bed floor , it has the original metal bedfloor and it look's bad from years of use but is not rusted and I really don't want to perfect it because I haul stuff from time to time , anyway what I am thinking about doing is to make a wood floor that will sit about 2''s over the metal that is removeable but will look good for cruz night's , anybody done anything like this ? pic's ?

An original wood floor fits under the flanges on the wheel tubs and along the bottom of the bed sides. I can't imagine how you could install a wood floor above the original and have it look right.

I'm surprised that your '67 has a steel bed floor. A '67 I owned still had a wood floor although the '69 I owned had the steel floor.

I love your truck... doesn't get to much better than that.

For the bed you could do what you are saying by simply putting spacers on top of the existing metal.

Kind of depends on how you use your truck. If you haul stuff in it like dirt, gravel, etc. the space between the floors would end up with "stuff" in it which would likely promote rust.

However if your truck is a cruiser and not a working truck it would probably be fine.

Were you thinking of an original wooden board style bed or using something like 4' x 8' sheet products?

If you used 4' x 8' sheet you could use (2) and splice it in the center with (1) original style metal or stainless bed strip. That is what I am planning for my stepside, I hope to get to this later this winter.

It's a nice looking truck. I think that if you want the "look" of a wood bed, do as HotRod John states with two pieces of 4x8 plywood and splice in the middle with an original style metal Strip

Take it one step further and groove the plywood and install a set of metal strips right on the plywood. You could even get some nice veneered plywood and finish it off pretty nice. If you did the splice right, you could pop the floor in and out pretty easy.

YEA the 4x8 sheet split and cut out to fit NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN !

1967 was the first year chevrolet offered the metal floor and AT NO COST you could get the wood or the metal for the same price ,
mine was ordered with the metal WHICH IS THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE TRUCK ,

as far as use my truck is a cruz in / cruz night / FUN TRUCK but I want to be able to haul something in it if I need to , like that time I found a cool old coca cola machine FREE but had to haul it home ? GUESS WHAT ! IT'S OUT HERE IN THE GARAGE WITH THE COCA COLA LIGHT ON RIGHT NOW !

the metal bed floor is not that bad and not rusted thru anywhere but it is beat up and is pitted from surface rust , I sandblasted it and painted it black about 4 year's ago

it's just an appearance thing , thank's for the replie's and I will post pic's of this when I do it ,,,

here is the bed floor pic's

I'd use a 3/4" plywood too.
