bought this truck from my neighbor for 500.00, I think I may have spent too much.
It runs and shifts pretty good but brakes don't work, only the parking brake. Anybody have any idea how much of a money pit this can turn into?
I have pictures on photobucket but I can't figure out how to link them

A running truck for $500 bucks, but it needs a brake job...

... I would say that is a good deal.

Ok Pete, I tryed to follow your directions, but I must've done something wrong, cause the line didn't turn blue where all you have to do is click on it to go to the album. but you can copy it and paste it on goggle and find it that way. Take a look at the pics and tell me what I got, like what year, how big a money pit, etc.

I believe that you have a 1964 C-10 beecause of the side emblem and the non-wrap windshield. Check out the GALLERY for confirmation.
Check this one out.

As with anything it can be a cheap or as expensive as you want. If you just get the brakes working and road worthy then you can get out of it for a few hundred bucks. If you do a complete frame off restoration then you are looking a thousands of dollars. It is all what you want to make it.

BTW $500 for a running truck is a pretty good deal.

It's best to ask the body repair question in the PAINT AND BODY SHOP

Your truck is worth anywhere from $300 -$2500 depending on how much rust,/title/interior/glass/engine etc. For $500 you got a good deal.

i bought my 54 as a beater in 1983 and fixed the safety issues, brakes, steering, tires and drove it that way for 23 years. it came in handy when my son turned 18, he drove his mothers's car and she took my van. so the necessary safety items and enjoy. ron

actually, gayzim, the truck only has a few places where the rust is pitted, while there is alot of weathering the body really is solid. I'll worry about paint at a much later date, after all it's for my 13 yr old. I'll let you know how it comes out in three years.

You've mentioned the expression "money pit" a couple of times. Did you think you were going to buy a $500 vehicle (a 45 year old one at that)
and it was going to be inexpensive?

As for fixing he rust holes? You're not fixing THAT rust by addressing the holes. The entire front brim of the cab needs to be taken apart to properly address thatcancer or it is only going to come back, and fast.

You need to ask yourself if you're truly an old car enthusiast and have the money (and willingness to spend it) to fix it, or do you have the fabrication skills to (and the willingness to spend the time) to fix it yourself? If the answer is an honest yes, then it is STILL a long haul even for those of us that have done this before. Frankly, you don't always feel like working on it; you aren't always as motivated. BUT coming to places like this site keeps your batteries charged. Good luck with whatever you decide. Keep posting.
