If you'll do a search on transmissions or transmission swaps, etc. I think you'll be surprised at the amount of info we have available. It is a very popular subject here. A lot of it will be for the AD model but well worth your time to check out. Thanks and Welcome Aboard Rick. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 | Rick,
How about a rear end swap instead? What ratio are you running? A different rear end would be pretty easy. Are you looking for more gears or more speed? | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 40 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 40 | I don't know what rear end I have , but I have a comfortable top speed of about 45-50 and bad gas milage . I am open to any and all suggestions . I heard it was gard to change the gears in the rear end ? | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 41 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 41 | I did the t5 swap and I love it. The bottom end is good and highway speeds are a breeze.53 moneypit has the right idea, just search on here and inliners- you'll find more than you need. | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 40 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 40 | dustman did you have to change your flywheel or driveshaft , and what did you take your T-5 from ? Thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 41 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 41 | your 57 truck bellhousing should work, mine was a 55. I used the pressure plate and flywheel from the truck tranny, with a cluch disc for an s-10 (thats where the t5 came from. You have to cut the pilot shaft and piece the throwout bearing slides on. This used to be a torque tube, so I used a modern rear and shaft. I had to shorten the shaft. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 41 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 41 | http://www.inliners.org/check this out, there is lots more info online, just look. The problems we face today can not be addressed at the same level of intelligence we were at when we created them - Albert Einstein Or with the same level of $ - Me

Your help, combined with my adventure yesterday confirmed to me that this is the right fit for my truck and me. I drove my truck on hwy 75 from dallas to vanalsten tx. yesterday ( about 50 miles one way ) and by my best calculations I was getting about 8 yea 8 mpg ! I was keeping it at about 55 mph and though it was running strong it was really roaring ! | | |
