The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Missing part for 235

Please help a newbie: I have what I believe is a 1955 235 engine in a '53 3600 truck (the engine model is F55Z, and the engine block is a 3836233). The bottom of the flywheel is exposed - there must be a missing flywheel cover that should be there?

Are these covers available from one of the suppliers (I haven't found one yet), or is it possible to find one from salvage yards? Are they sheet metal, or a casting?

Yeah I have one for my 1960 235 and it is held on by just 2 bolts into the bell housing. It is just sheet metal. Its a common enough piece that I think lmctruck.com, Jim Carter old chevy parts, or even classictrucks.com should have one for you. Those places may charge you more than a junkyard though. Hope this helps.

Your engine is from a '55 passenger car with manual transmission.

In my experience,there was no difference.

There are actually two pieces to this assembly one that goes against the flywheel on the block side and the inspection cover underneath see pictures they attach with 1/4" stovebolts. This cover was often one of the first things removed/lost on these old trucks.

I know that the early '50's covers are different between a car and truck. I needed a replacement for my '50 Car and got one for a pick-up and it was different.
