Another silly question from the "New Guy". Just wondering where I would find the engine code. Where on the block could/would they be located?? The only number that I've found so far was on the head and it is 3836848. With GM20 underneath it. And is there a website that I could search the engine code out when I find it?? I'm guessing that I could do on the Stovebolt page somehow. Thanks

I'm not sure what you have but if its a 235 you should look on the little "pad" just beside where the distributor goes down into the engine. There should be number stamped there. Get it and post here on the post and one of these nice bolters will decipher it for you.
You'll probably have to wipe off the grease/dirt to see the numbers.

And if it's a GMC it will have the engine size (228-248, etc) cast in the block on the passenger side. Sure would help if you'd tell us what it is, make, model, year of birth, etc. Some of these guys are very, very good but I don't think any of them are mind readers.

3836848 is a 235 head casting code used from 1956-1962.

Thanks guys. I know its a '59 Apache. Just wanted to know the small details about it. Ie. Where, when it was made etc. I'll get those numbers of the side of the block and post 'em up.

You have a Canadian truck I would presume. I would guess that the Canadian GMCs still used Chev 235 motors in the light and medium duty trucks in 1959. Here is a serial number decoder for your year. It should be part of the VIN tag.

Its actually an American truck from South Dakota. I've already checked the VIN and it gave me the info on when and where it was produced. Still cleaning the caked on oil off the side of the block to get the engine code. Thanks though T'nix.
